Roast meat trends revealed

Beef tops the polls when it comes to the UK’s favourite kind of carvery, according to new national research carried out by Farmhouse Inns. When asked what the ‘best’ kind of carvery meat is, just under half of the UK (44%) opted for beef. The classic Christmas favourite, turkey just squeezed into third place as Brits favourite carvery meat (26%), with chicken taking second place.

There was clear divide when it came to gender, with men preferring a beef carvery over women who opted for chicken. Women were also more likely to opt for a nut roast, with one in 10 preferring the vegetarian option to a meat-based carvery.

Unsurprisingly, Britain overwhelmingly voted gravy as the best ‘sauce’, with a whopping 72% of those surveyed choosing it. Mint sauce (29%), a must-have with lamb, landed in second while the classic turkey condiment cranberry sauce (24%) took third spot.

However, the country all agreed on one thing: roast potatoes are the single most important element to a carvery, winning over half of the vote (56%). Yorkshire pudding (15%) finished in second while stuffing climbed into the top three with a measly 5%.

An element that did divide the nation was the humble sprout. Aberdeen topping the polls as the UK’s biggest sprout loving city, with one in 10 choosing the controversial veggie as their ultimate carvery accompaniment.
