Pan’Artisan launches Detroit style pizza base
In response to a clear appetite for innovative pizza flavours and varieties, Pan’Artisan have launched their Detroit Style Pizza Base – a versatile addition to their portfolio of premium dough products.
This is a connoisseur’s pizza that delivers a satisfying eat, made with a focaccia style dough the resulting deep base remains light and crispy on baking, and although the name may suggest an American recipe pizza, its origins hail from Italy as a descendant of Sicilian-style dough pizza. These newly launched Detroit Style Pizza Bases make a visually impressive sharing (or not!) pizza once topped and garnished, they also offer a great street food or sit down option by the slice and are suitable for both vegans and vegetarians.
Delivering the quality and expertise the company is renowned for, the hand-stretched pizza bases impart a light and airy texture and have a deep crust with a high hydration level. To achieve a true Detroit style pizza, the cheese is spread to the edges of the base and once cooked, caramelises against the high sided rectangular pan giving the distinctive ‘Frico’ edge – the ‘lacy’ looking cheese crust and crispy edge, along with a chewy texture and crisp exterior.
The new product is provided as a rectangular shape plain base, approximately 15” by 11”, which can be divided into individual portions to top or can be topped as a whole pizza. The bases are supplied frozen in cases of eight and can be individually defrosted for approx. 2 hours at ambient temperature, or overnight in a chiller. Salt and sugar levels are within government guidelines.
