Companies invited to bid for Uni of Sussex contract

Following an extensive consultation with the campus community, the University of Sussex has launched a competitive tender process for a new on-campus catering contract. This offers an opportunity for organisations to play a leading role in the transformation of catering services on the University’s campus, meeting the needs of a diverse community of over 20,000 staff and students.

The current catering contract ends in August 2023 and the University is seeking a long-term partner, or partners, for food and drinks. This will include sit-down meals and snacks at its eight cafés and eateries, as well as mobile street food vans and coffee carts, alongside summer school catering and hospitality for conferences and events.

In a first for the University, a values-based, ethical procurement process will drive the choice of partners, alongside considerations of value for money, quality and efficiency.

“We will seek partners whose commitments to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to environmental sustainability, are congruent with our own institutional values,” said Tim Westlake, chief operating officer at the University. “We will continue to ensure that our partners pay the Real Living Wage to all staff working on our campus, in accordance with our own recent accreditation as a Real Living Wage employer.”
