Gayle prevails at StrEATfood Awards

Kameca Gayle from Genuine Dining Co was the big winner at last night’s STrEATfood Awards. She saw off extremely stiff competition from 15 other contract catering chefs to win the coveted title of StrEATfood Dish of the Year for her delicious Rum-battered red snapper.

Matthew Chapman from Angel Hill Food Co also had a night to remember. Not only did he place second for his Oak smoked goat birria tacos, he also won StrEATfood Chef of the year for his Keralan steak and chip butty which was made from sponsors’ products.

A clearly delighted Gayle thanked her team from the stage, saying: “I can’t thank you guys enough for believing in me and pushing me to do this. The competition has been unreal. Thanks so much!”

Chapman was equally pleased, telling host Christian Stevenson (AKA DJ BBJ): “I can’t believe I won to be honest, I was just delighted to be a participant in the awards. I was happy that I put my food out on time and that it looked good. I was pleased with my work today.”

He also thanked his team for “allowing me the time to work on my dishes and for supporting me today”.

The 16 finalists, who all work in contract catering, were shortlisted after subjecting their signature street food dishes for our panel of judges. The event was sponsored by Chef Central, Fagor Professional, General Mills, Lamb Weston, Major International, Rational and Soho Sandwich Company.
