University of Sussex renews Chartwells contract
Chartwells has been confirmed as the University of Sussex’s ongoing catering partner. After a competitive procurement process, the incumbent provider won a new 10-year contract under a cost-plus model, which will see any profits ploughed back into the service.
The contract creates an industry-leading package for the company’s staff working at the university, without compromising the value and quality requirements of the catering provision. These staff members will now receive the same annual leave allowance and level of pension as University of Sussex staff on similar gradings.
Tim Westlake, chief operating officer at the University of Sussex, said: “Chartwells has proposed an exciting, modern vision for our catering services that is deeply rooted in sustainability, ethics and value for money, and significantly invests in a revamp of the university’s eating spaces. I am delighted that we will work closely with them to monitor and regularly review pricing to ensure staff and students are getting value for money.”
Kerry Ford, regional managing director for Chartwells, added: “We share the university's vision of sustainability, inclusivity and value for money, and are excited to bring an exciting, modern vision to the campus dining experience. Our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable meals while prioritising ethical and sustainable practices is at the forefront of our partnership.”
