LACA Main Event and School Food Show 2024

Levelling up School Food

The biggest school meals event in the UK awaits delegates to the LACA Main Event in Birmingham from July 3-4, with a packed programme of conference, competitions, cooking demos, workshops, and awards plus the School Food Show, and exhibition with over 160 suppliers.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Levelling Up School Food’, which has been chosen to put the focus on the fact that providing nutritious meals to children has become increasingly challenging.

In response to these challenges, LACA has launched a campaign urging all political parties to commit to a minimum funding level of £3 per meal (index-linked) in their general election manifestoes.

The programme and features at the Main Event have been designed to address the disparities in school meals funding across the four UK nations of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

Delegates can expect to hear from speakers that will explore strategies that can help to ensure that all children and young people receive the very best school food to support their growth and learning.

Among the speaker highlights Dr Amir Khan, a full-time GP and best-selling author who is the resident doctor for ITV’s Lorraine & Good Morning Britain and hosts Dr Amir’s Sugar Crash (Channel 5) and You Are What You Eat (with Trisha Goddard, Channel 5).

He will talk about the importance of nutrition in children’s diets and the impact of good nutrition at an early age on other public health bodies including the NHS.

And there is also John Douch, from Sales Tribe, who will concentrate on the concept of 'Customer Obsession'. His presentation will underscore the rapid evolution occurring across various industries and the unprecedented importance of aligning sales, marketing, and customer engagement teams to adapt to these changes.

In addition to the LACA Main Event Programme, there are workshop sessions open to both visitors and delegates, as well as the ever popular, LACA Live demonstration theatre.  The LACA School Chef of the Year final will also take place at the event this July.

The LACA School Food Show runs alongside the Main Event on 3rd and 4th July with exhibitors showcasing products and services for the school food sector.  It is open to all school caterers, managers and contract caterers and is free-to-attend, it is the chance to catch up with your suppliers, discuss new products, and source new ideas.
